Scenic Ohio appoints Ric Queen from a field of many excellent candidates to the newly created position of Executive Director.



Ric’s career spans decades of involvement conserving and protecting Ohio’s beautiful natural places and resources.  His deep appreciation of these treasures and our scenic highway corridors will complement the board’s keen interest in the importance of context sensitive solutions to transportation planning.

A graduate of Ohio State University’s School of Environment & Natural Resources, he began his long public service career in 1978 at the Department of Natural Resources in naturalist program management, culminating at the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency where he was senior manager over the wetland program.  Before retiring From Ohio EPA in 2015, he was instrumental in expanding and shaping the wetland program and its rules and laws to one of national prominence.

Ric serves on the executive committee of a number of boards including the Ohio State University School of Environment & Natural Resources Alumni Society, Columbus Landmarks Foundation, and the Ohio Wetlands Association.

Ric also owns a large tract of land in the Hocking Hills along a Scenic By-way where he has tirelessly worked to protect our core mission.  Ric lives in Galloway, Ohio on 6 acres where he has built a 3-acre vernal pool wetland.   

Ric has considerable experience establishing sound partnerships, collaborating with environmental groups, public engagement and understanding Ohio’s legislative process.

As Scenic Ohio’s new Executive Director, Ric will help the statewide organization better pursue its mission of Safe and Beautiful Highways in the state of Ohio.
